The PFA Coordinator/Lawyer Referral is part of the Court Administration and is responsible for the processing of all Protection From Abuse Petitions, and is also the referral service for lawyers in Lawrence County.

FAQs

Do I need to make an appointment to file a PFA?

PFA’s are taken in this office between the hours of 8 a.m.-11:30 a.m., and 1 p.m.-3 p.m.. You do not need to make an appointment.

How much does it cost to file a PFA?

There is no fee to file a PFA.

Do I qualify to file for a PFA?

You may file a PFA if you or a minor child in your care has been the victim of attempted or actual bodily injury or sexual assault, or threats of serious bodily injury, kidnapping or physical restraint; AND the abuser is your present or former spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend, sexual partner, or is related to you by blood or marriage.

You are not entitled to file a PFA Petition against someone who is merely your neighbor or an acquaintance. You are not entitled to file a PFA Petition merely to obtain a custody order or to resolve a custody dispute.
